Boxing is a very generic term covering many different practices. French boxing, boxing, Muay Thai boxing: the possibilities to discover different sports, each involving their own rules and objectives, are numerous.
However, in the same way that we do not throw ourselves into the water without knowing how to swim, we do not go into boxing without being prepared for a minimum. In particular, it is crucial to understand what boxing represents, ie the benefits, the different disciplines or how to choose your equipment. It is also important to know in more detail the different equipment that you can or should get for the practice of boxing.
Let’s discover this together without delay!

2. The Necessary And Essential Equipment For Getting Started In Boxing
We can now go to the basics: the equipment that is highly recommended to get into boxing alone, way “shadow boxing”!
The punching bag with its support and the freestanding punching bag
Built from a dominant material (such as falling fabrics), the punching bag is a must-have for boxing enthusiasts. Allowing you to repeat the movements and perfect them without requiring the presence of an opponent, the punching bag sticks to your provisions. Another very good point: it has the advantage of being an inert object, which will channel your energy. No risk of causing collateral damage due to the liveliness and power of your shots! Note: the punching bag can be placed directly on the floor, or be suspended from a pulley or ceiling.
Good to know: you already have your bag punch, but you want to hang or hang? Why not choose the bag hook or standing stem as a support for your punch bag?
Boxing gloves & Heavy Bag Gloves
Boxing gloves are of course the first gear you will need to buy to practice this discipline. Padded, they allow to chained blows while protecting your joints and your fingers against blows too violent. Better, they allow you to acquire a discipline of striking, by choosing the most effective and tiring strokes the least. And above all, they exist in a lot of different designs; but not worry as there are many different places where you can read about the best rated ones. These heavy bag gloves are going to be for the more experienced users and not so much so for beginners. If you are just a beginner then these will be best left until you get some experience under your belt.
So as we said if you are just a beginner getting started in the sport then their are still many other choices of boxing gloves to choose from. Here a few of them to check out from the same trusted source.
Boxing shoes
Just like boxing gloves, boxing shoes are essential equipment. Specifically designed for practice, boxing shoes provide optimal support for your feet and ankles, all to avoid the famous sprains. This is all the more important if you devote yourself to French boxing, given the pressure exerted on the feet and ankles. There are models of all designs, at all prices, and more in line with French boxing or boxing.
Boxing Head Guards
The boxing helmet does not appear as essential for all those who practice boxing. In particular, those who practice shadow boxing (boxing alone), the wearing of the helmet may be unnecessary because of the absence of opponent hits. However, it is possible that you then evolve towards boxing against real opponents, even going on competitions. In either case, the boxing helmet will prove essential for regulatory and safety issues. So you’ll get used to wearing it right away!
Who said that boxing should be a discipline only for adults? More and more, children discover in boxing the way to let off steam, to physically express their energy while learning the rules of etiquette and respect for others. Truly an instrument of enlightenment, the punching ball for child is adapted especially to their force of strike and their resistance. They are therefore less hard and less heavy. And good news in addition: some punching balls for children come with boxing gloves already provided. A boon !
Useful accessories to improve and take your boxing to the next level
In addition to the equipment below, any fan of boxing can push his experience even further by purchasing the equipment below. Of course, think about assessing your needs, your desires and your budget before anything else.
Boxing shin guard
Just like the boxing helmet, the shin guard for boxing does not always appear as an essential instrument. In addition, all the disciplines of boxing do not allow the blows on the legs, the shin guard will not necessarily be essential. For other disciplines, however, it will protect you from serious trauma if you face other opponents or you go to competition.
The bear’s paw
Where boxing gloves allow you to hit with, bear paws are made to be hit on them. As a result, they will require you to practice with someone else who will wear them and collect the blows. It is obvious that the bear paw has many advantages, especially with regard to precision. Faced with a moving target, you will have to adapt to the movements that your opponent will do and your own positioning. Good point too: like the bust-dummy dummy (see below), the bear paw offers a very good realism because a real person manipulates it behind.
The striking bust-mannequin
Very often, the bust-dummy is chosen instead of the punching bag, but you can also choose it in addition to diversify your training. Resistant, the striking dummy bust has the advantage of being much more realistic. You can see the range of your gestures as you type in strategic places. Better: it improves your accuracy by observing precisely where you hit. Anecdotally, it is also more practical to install a punching bag that must be suspended.
3. Boxing Gloves Analysis
A complete guide for those who do not know what kind of workout gloves and boxing gloves to buy. You will learn the difference between all types of glove, the correct use of them and where to buy them.
Boxing gloves have a large variety and always cause confusion. What causes even more confusion, is that manufacturers always say that the product they own is the best choice. I’ll help you figure out if what they say is real or not.
Why Wear Boxing Gloves?
Most beginners don't think that boxing gloves are necessary but Contrary to what other fighting styles like karate and kungfu would recommend, bare-knuckle boxing or just using boxing wraps can destroy your hands over time EVEN if you are careful. Inadequate technique as well as lack of protection can cause arthritis, weakening of joints, weakening of muscles and loss of movement in the hands over time. It’s scary, but it happens. To make sure your hands are upright and functioning normally for the rest of your life, it is important that you always protect them. Just as you should wear a head protector to protect the head, you should also wear boxing gloves to protect the hands. Some boxing gloves go even further and offer extra cushioning to keep your opponent from getting hurt too much.
A good pair of boxing gloves will be comfortable and will serve in your hand normally, around the wrist and fingers. You should not feel that the glove is wearing your hand or that it is forcing you to close it in a way that feels weird. High quality gloves will withstand constant blows without losing quality in the cushioning. Certain materials used in glove manufacturing will determine how long it will last before tearing or flattening. It is important to note that some cheaper gloves can be as comfortable as the more expensive gloves or can even absorb the impact better, but certainly the cheaper ones do not last as long. To find out the best specification of the gloves, I mentioned the link here.
Best rated companies vs Shit companies
Not all boxing gloves are made considering the actual boxing training. Like anything in life, not all are made equal. The worst brands are those sold in major sports stores like Big 5 Sport, Sports Chalet and Sports Authority. Surely the worst gloves you could buy are the Ever last that look like classic boxing gloves. NEVER buy those - you will probably break your hand in a week or less.
Just because I paid more for a pair of gloves does not mean they are better. But the saying that “you get what you paid for” still holds true. A pair of $ 50 gloves will not be as good as a pair of $ 70 gloves from the same store. Use common sense and be prepared to pay at least $ 100 online and $ 130 at a store.
4. Different Types of Boxing Gloves
There are many different types of boxing gloves but the ones you get depend on the style of training you plan to be doing. Lets go over the different types to help you choose the best boxing gloves for your training style
Bag Bat Gloves - Most of these are small and thin. In boxing gloves is the one of the body protector. The more expensive look like normal boxing gloves. In my opinion, you should ignore them as they are a waste of time and money. They are made to protect your joints as you strike the punching bag hard and serve to accustom your joints to impact. Another thing to remember is that some bag-hit gloves are hard and do not fit perfectly on the handle.
Training Gloves - these types of boxing gloves are gloves for daily use. Some do not have enough cushioning for sparring. See [What Boxing Gloves to Wear].
Sparring Gloves - Gloves for general use. I recommend everyone to get a pair of sparring gloves before any other. They are made with extra cushioning to protect your hands as well as cushion the opponent’s blows. You can use these gloves for boxing in general. It is important to remember that sparring gloves should be at least 14 oz. Up to 16 oz. (Ounces) especially if you weigh more than 60 kg.
Professional Gloves or Fighting Gloves - Fighting gloves are smaller and more compact to inflict more damage on your opponent. They are not recommended for anything other than competition.
Gloves Aerobic / Cardio - These gloves are usually easily found by having a very low price. Avoid them! It has the lowest damping possible and will rip quickly.
Does Color Matter? Yes!
Does the color of gloves matter? YEA! Although red is the classic color, it is less visible to the human eye than other colors. If you are in a sparring match against someone, it is preferable that your opponent wear gloves of a color that you can see. Do not forget that wearing light colored gloves also helps your trainer see your punches more easily. I train often at night, so I prefer to wear blue, green and white on my gloves. I have a pair of red gloves, but only because red is the classic color. Another bad thing about red gloves is that sometimes you can not see the blood stains on them. I know this is kind of morbid, but I like to see the blood stains on the gloves.
Velcro vs Lace ups
Shoelace gloves offer more comfort if you prefer that they fit tightly to your arm. For some fighters, it is a habit to tie the laces of the gloves. Gloves with velcro are made to be more practical and can be as safe as the gloves with laces, with the differential of practicality. Many people prefer gloves with Velcro because they can put them on without help from another person. The downside of the gloves with velcro in my opinion is that the elastic velcro can stick on your bandage and rip the bandage. Not a big deal, but it’s happened to me before and I was really annoyed. Gloves with laces are not so difficult to adjust.
Another great advantage of tying gloves is that they allow you to walk around the gym and ask others to tie them to you. It’s an easy way to start a conversation with coaches, professional fighters and training colleagues.
5. My Opinion About Different Brands
Title - I really like Title’s equipment. The brand has quality and is not so expensive. I also see this mark many times in the academies. Even the classic gloves of this brand will endure years of training. Certainly the best cost / benefit ratio.
Fighting - It’s Title’s “special” boxing brand. The padding and cushioning are great, but the fit part on the arm looks a bit bad. I have a pair of velcro and Velcro look really bad. Apart from that, it is a glove of excellent quality and costs far less than other “special” brands.
Everlast - One of the most popular and almost synonymous brands of boxing. Most of their equipment is just marketing. I do not know if they have a division in the company that makes toys, but a lot of their equipment is horrible. You only find quality in their equipment when you buy professional quality items. The truth is that you will not really get quality Everlast gloves if you do not pay at least $ 150 or more. All their equipment below this price range is strange, cramped, or looks like toys, and is not comfortable on the hands. To top it all off, I see more of that brand inside the room of boys who like boxing than being used in boxing academies.
Grant - Great gloves with plenty of protection. They are very well cushioned and used many times in professional fights. They have good padding around the wrist, which is great for defensive fighters or who get a lot of punches in that area (who fight with peek-a-boo style guard, or high guard, etc.). Excellent quality.
Century - GARBAGE. Total trash. Unfortunately, many people buy these gloves for the low price and because they are sold in non-specialized stores, and believe it is a quality brand - NO IT IS! Avoid!
TKO - Imitation gloves for professional gloves. These gloves may look thick and comfortable at first, but have poor durability and poor fit, which offers little protection over time. Avoid these imitation gloves as a disease!. To find the best body protector gloves , you can refer this link.
Reyes (Cleto Reyes) - Believe in marketing. These gloves are made to be more compact at the beginning of use, to help the boxer. It is important to remember that these gloves are made for FIGHTING, and definitely NOT FOR TRAINING / SPARRING. These gloves do more damage because they have less filler as protection, so capriche in the use of bandage on the hands. They also have excellent quality and durability, if you have those originals made in Mexico (you find on the internet). Again, I do not recommend these gloves for training, especially in the punching bag.
Rivals - Very good, expensive gloves that are really cool. In my opinion, you can find gloves as good as these for lower prices. If you like the cool design of these gloves, it is up to you. They are of good quality, note 10 - one of the best brands there is. I really like this brand’s head protector.
Ringside - Similar to the Rivals, they are very good and have a lot of quality for a high price. These gloves last forever! They are great and will look like new gloves even after 3 or 4 years of use. The inside and outside of these gloves last almost intact. The seams do not loosen, and the cushioning remains stable. Really great quality. Everyone who has ever had a pair of such gloves can guarantee it.
PRO (ProBoxingEquip) - It is a company located in Southern California, in the LA region. Their boxing gloves are bad. I even tested the professional equipment they have and the gloves are flat with a few months of constant use. Avoid them anyway, even at discount sellers.

- Improvement of cardiovascular rhythm. As you get muscle, you learn how to be more enduring to your body.
- The work of concentration. As Chinese boxing teaches us well, this sport is not just about KO. You must always be alert, ready to defend or attack, in short, be focused, which will greatly improve your mental faculties.
Where to practice boxing? Boxing vs. Boxer at home.
- Know your needs. Depending on your level of sport and your desires, you will not necessarily need all the features that can offer models. Separate in two columns the essential functionalities and the secondary functionalities.
- Go fishing references. Based on your needs, note the corresponding products and note the prices. This will give you a realistic idea of the price ranges.
- Choose the equipment of your dreams. When proceeding by elimination, remove the selected references. You will finally fall on the model that you like most!
